What is the history of this EXPO?

The history of the Expo dates back to 165 years that took place in London’s Hydel Park in 1851. The first exhibition held in London has showcased 100,00 objects industrial revolution inventions.
Telegraph in London in 1851, the typewriter in Philadelphia in 1876, the diesel engine in Paris in 1900, the color TV in New York in 1964, IMAX film in Osaka in 1970, and wireless trams in Yeosu in 2012 were some of the objects displayed in the first Expo. However, the last Expo was held in 2015 at Milan, Italy, under the theme of “Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life.”

How did Dubai make it to that prestigious list?

Dubai has submitted the request to host this mega event and won the deal with an incredible majority of 116 votes defeating the other contender cities such as Turkey’s Izmir, Russia’s Yekaterinburg, and Brazil’s Sao Paul. The decision to host was finalized at the 2013 general assembly of the Bureau International des Expositions in Paris.

However, Dubai is the first place in MENASA (Middle East, North Africa, and South Asia) region to host this fantastic event. The central theme of this event is ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ that includes sub-themes such as Opportunity, Sustainability, and Mobility.

When is this EXPO 2020 event?

The event generally lasts for six months, and in Dubai, the EXPO is from 20th October 2020 to 10th April 2021. More than 190 nations will participate in the 2020 expo.

• The logo of the EXPO 2020 was chosen by HH Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
• A metro station has been exclusively developed only for this event which can transport 45000 plus passengers per hour in every route.
• The site of EXPO 2020 will have four gates, and each of them can accommodate 15000 people per hour.

How many countries are participating in this event?

As stated in Dubai’s bid for EXPO 2020, 180 countries were supposed to participate in the event. However, the number has exceeded now to 190 countries, and all nations will have its pavilion. The buildings’ layout and construction will reflect the EXPO’s three sub-themes.
